With the outdoor season about to start we thought a reminder on the etiquette of the game would be appreciated.
ETIQUETTE:
DO ALWAYS - dress properly for ALL games at ALL times.
DO ALWAYS - be on time for the game, if delayed get a message to someone.
DO - at the start of the game introduce yourself and shake hands with your opponents
DO at the start of and during a game hand your opposite lead (when it is their turn to play) the Jack or Mat. You will find this gesture often reciprocated.
DO STAND STILL AND BE QUIET - behind the Mat when a player is about to bowl. DO STAND STILL BEHIND THE HEAD - when a player is about to bowl from the far end.
DO KEEP - to your own rink at ALL times.
DO - Compliment your opponent on a good bowl.
DO - pay attention to the game DON'T wander off your rink during play.
DO - acknowledge your Skips instructions.
DO - ENSURE that when "FIRM" bowls are played you are well clear of any movement of Jack or Bowl's in the head.
DO - PRAISE and ENCOURAGE your own team members.
DO - become conversant with the LAWS OF THE SPORT AND RULES of any particular competition that you are playing.
DO - be a player that everyone enjoys having on the green.
DO - when playing lead give Positive' INSTRUCTIONS when centring the Jack.
DO - KEEP OUT of the Head when shots are being decided by the threes
DO - remember the position that you are playing and fulfil your own particular function and leave others to do theirs.
DO NOT -CRITICISE other players on the green.
DO NOT- MOAN about a 'Lucky Wick', we all get our share.
DO NOT - DISCUSS who has the shot, when in doubt MEASURE.
DO NOT- turn your back on a bowl until it has run its course.
DO NOT- CRITICISE the rink/green, in particular when playing away.
DO NOT - walk along the bank when a player is about to bowl from the far end.
DO NOT stand in front of 'back' bowls, rink markers or centre marks, but readily move if requested to do so.
ALWAYS - be HUMBLE in VICTORY and GENEROUS in DEFEAT.
AT THE END - of a game, shake hands with your opposition and be sociable.
REMEMBER - DO NOT PRACTICE 'Gamesmanship'; it comes natural to those so inclined.

There is free parking in the Leisure Centre car park which is immediately adjacent to the Bowling Club. Wheelchair access is via the ramp at the corner of the green where Corams Lane joins Springfield Road.
